Maud

a Novel
Aug 09, 2017TEENREVIEWCREW rated this title 4.5 out of 5 stars
Maud is a young girl determined to become a famous writer, just like her idol, Louisa May Alcott. But it doesn’t help that she lives with her strict grandparents who don’t approve of women writers. And then there’s Nate, who she just might be falling in love with--but she’s set to accomplish many things related to writing before she marries. Then her world turns upside down when her grandparents send her away to her father out West, where she’s eager to get a so-called better education--in between doing chores assigned by her hateful stepmother, of course. Still, through all this, Maud pushes forward to become a writer. This heartwarming, laughable, heartbreaking novel taking place in the late 1800s is a delightful recapture of L.M. Montgomery’s teen life through the eyes of the author. Teens passionate for reading and writing will be inspired by the retold story of Maud’s life. The author conveys an important message to her readers: never give up on your dreams. 5 out of 5 stars. - @RadicalReader of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library 14 year old Lucy Maud Montgomery has a dream to go to college and become a writer. Her friends call her Maud. This book takes place in the 1800s. It has an old feeling to it. The way the characters dress and what they can and cannot do tells us that this book takes place way back. I enjoyed reading this book. Maud grows up as the story goes on. At the age of 14, she falls for Nate Lockhart and he likes her too. Her mother died when she was just a baby so she has to live with her grandparents.  When she's 15 years old she has to go out west to Saskatchewan and live with her father, stepmother, and their daughter. She finds another chance at love and meets new friends. This book was a great book to read and it is based on the real life person named Lucy Maud Montgomery. It is still a work of fiction. 4/5 stars. - @AquafinaAstro of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
