Summary
Add a SummaryThe bad guys are stealing the airship ‘Finishing School of Young Ladies’ to take to London and over-throw the London government. Sophronia, her friends and teachers work together to foil that plot. After the danger the girls are declared ‘Finished’, to take up their lives of spying or simply to an advantaged marriage. The vampires and werewolves are the supports is this story.

This is Sophronia’s final year at finishing school. Over the spring, she became indentured to Dewan to save Soap’s life. The school year has been mostly quiet until the New Year’s Eve Ball, then the school is taken over by Flywaymen and Picklemen. During the takeover all the students and teachers are forced to evacuate, Sophronia manages to hide in the school while it is being evacuated. Over the next few days, she manages to capture some of the Flywaymen and Picklemen and figure out their evil plans. Before her adversaries can carry out their plans, they manage to disable the balloons that keep the school floating and send it crashing to the ground. Sophronia has little chance of surviving the crash, just when it seems everything is lost her friends come to her rescue.

A suitably twisty and explosive conclusion to the Finishing School series. I'm still not as in love with this series as Carriger's other writing, but it was a fun ride, especially in audiobook form read perfectly by Moira Quirk.
The final installment in the Finishing School series was just as much fun and fast paced as the other books! Sophronia's story arc is complete and I'm very satisfied with the way Gail Carriger ended the series.
Yay! What a way to end this series. I thoroughly enjoyed it as it went on and I think I liked this one the best. The stakes were higher, the danger was more real, it was more intense. Still fluffy and fun but I enjoyed the ending to the whole thing. Now I am sad there isn't more to read in this world. :( But overall, I enjoyed it.
It pains me to see that this series is over. Gail Carriger is one of my favourite authors and she always writes these unforgettable, crazy bunch of characters who get under your skin and stay a part of you. That's how I felt about Sophronia and her friends.
Once more, I think of all four books and this one made me laugh the hardest at times. While it didn't feature much of my favourite character (Sidheag), the focus on Agatha, who has been quite the allure this whole series, was fantastic. I loved how Carriger wrapped up the mystery of her character in particular, and I'm always happy to see when there's more to a grumpy character.
This was also probably the most intense and action oriented of the four novels, and with good reason when you hit the ending. Unlike the other three books, the majority of the action in this book is far more serious than comedic (though that isn't entirely true). There's so much humour in these characters, and I love the wit and cheekiness of them. It's hard to let them go.
The action, the etiquette, the zaniness! There's just so much this series embodies, and I thought that Carriger did a great job bringing this world to a close. While I'm sad it's all over, I'm excited to see where things go with this universe now that Prudence is an adult. While I'm having a hard time letting these characters go, I won't forget the mayhem they caused, and the joy they gave me as a reader.
A satisfying ending to a fun series! Overall, this series is a fluffy, fun confection - that almost pokes fun at the conventions of its own genre. Very enjoyable!
An entertaining end to Carriger's Finishing School series. An unconventional conclusion for an unconventional heroine.
I loved the series and I thought the ending was appropriate for the main characters. After e-mailing the author I was assured that we would learn what happened to Dimity. I recently learned that she has another series set in the same world but twenty years later. I am hoping the library decides to have those books as well.
loved the series, but I wasn't a fan of the ending...
This has been such a delightful series and I'm sad to see it come to an end. This was probably my favorite book of the series because it was great to see how all the characters have matured and changed since book one. Can't wait to see what Gail Carriger puts out next!
