From Canada's internationally acclaimed Generation X laureate (The New York Times) come four unforgettable stories told with icy clarity and great heart. This is a world in which fast food, banged-up cars and the grunge of modern adolescence barely camouflage the dark extremes of sex, fear and desire -- and the longing for love. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Short story is not my favourite format but, Eden Robinson. Enthralling vignettes that make me humble with gratitude for my simple little safe life, and for Eden Robinson. What was bad about this book is how out of touch most of the blurbs on the back of the book seemed to be. I have to say, after reading Contact Sports in this collection, I don't think I'm up to reading Blood Sports, a novel published 10 years later, with the same characters and same dynamics, at least according to the description.

"The characters have no time to develop or explore themselves because they are always jumping to the next tragedy" Perhaps this is the reality of their lives. No candy coated salvation for young people caught in untenable situations. I appreciated this book as well as others by Robinson. They ring true
