About ten years ago, I was sifting through my cousin's CD collection when I came across Gord's Gold. "Gordon Lightfoot?" I exclaimed, "Who the heck is Gordon Lightfoot?" Greg smiled wryly and popped Carefree Highway into the player. The music hit me like a concentrated brick of yearning. I was suddenly six years old, running around in the backyard of my childhood home under a glorious summer sky. The whole album is, for anyone who grew up in the 70s, a synaptic carpet ride to nostalgiaville, when Lightfoot’s music saturated the AM airwaves; this album is a palpable reminder of just how prolific the man was. I knew every song…EVERY SONG…on this album. I have since engorged my CD collection with Gordon Lightfoot.
